In accordance with Alabama law, Section 16-29-1, Code of Alabama, 1975, our school will be conducting a free screening for all 9th grade students to detect adolescent scoliosis on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 during AO/Jag period. The school nurses, with the assistance of Children's Hospital Scoliosis School Screening Program, will conduct the scoliosis screening program. It involves a visual examination of the back while standing straight and bending over.
Please make sure you wear a slip-on shirt or blouse on the screening day. Girls will not need to remove tank tops or camisoles. Boys and girls will be screened separately. If any symptoms are detected parents will be notified by letter.
Students who have an athletic physical on file for the current school year will not participate in the screening. If you child is under the care of a physician for spinal issues or you do not wish for your 9th grader to participate in the screening, please notify Mrs. Laney in writing or by email (blaney@hoover.k12.al.us ) by 12 noon on Monday, March 12th.
